Advancing Health Equity and Access

  • Healthy Maryland Act
    Delegate Acevero championed this transformative legislation to establish a universal healthcare system in Maryland, ensuring that every resident has access to comprehensive and affordable healthcare services.

  • Equal Access to Abortion Care Act
    Delegate Acevero helped to pass this bill, ensuring that all Marylanders, regardless of income or insurance status, have access to safe and affordable abortion care, protecting reproductive rights for everyone in the state.

  • Codifying Reproductive Health in the Maryland Constitution
    Delegate Acevero voted to enshrine reproductive rights in the Maryland Constitution, safeguarding access to abortion and other essential healthcare services against future threats.

Promoting Housing Stability and Tenant Rights

  • Delegate Acevero has co-sponsored and voted for legislation that would protect renters across Maryland such as Good Cause, additionally he has helped secure more funding for tenant legal support and voted for legislation that would promote affordable housing. 

Supporting Families and Children

  • Youth Transitioning From Foster Care Program (HB1121)
    Delegate Acevero introduced legislation to provide direct cash assistance to kids aging out of Maryland's foster care system, making it easier for them to access child care scholarships and transition successfully into adulthood.

  • Protect Our Federal Workers Act (HB1424)
    During times of federal uncertainty, Delegate Acevero ensured protections for federal workers by expanding assistance programs and creating expedited hiring pathways for those affected by government shutdowns or layoffs.

Protecting Immigrant Communities

  • As an immigrant, Delegate Acevero has fought to protect immigrant communities and voted for legislation such as Dignity Not Detention Act, ending 287(g) programs with ICE and securing more funding for legal aid.

  • Equal Access to Public Services for Individuals with Limited English Proficiency and Disabilities (HB1473)
    This legislation expanded access to public services for individuals with limited English proficiency and disabilities, ensuring that no one is left behind in accessing critical resources.

Advocating for Economic Justice

  • Guaranteed Basic Income

    As a member of the Appropriations Committee, Delegate Acevero has introduced legislation that would provide direct cash assistance for low income Marylanders to help meet basic needs. 

Criminal Justice Reform

  • Anton’s Law
    As the Chair of the Public Safety and Administration Subcommittee, Delegate Acevero led the fight for police accountability with Anton’s Law, increasing transparency by granting public access to police misconduct records and strengthening oversight to build trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve.

  • Maryland Second Look Act (HB853)
    Delegate Acevero introduced and passed this transformative legislation, allowing individuals convicted between the ages of 18 and 25 to petition for a reduction in their sentence after serving at least 20 years. This law reflects his commitment to second chances and restorative justice.
